Knitting question: Using a needle sizes for a reason, what should I do?

I have a model for size 8 needles. I would like to use with size 6 needles. He said to lay on 30 stitches and knit for 14 inches. How can I modify this model for size 6 needles? (Please include how you got the answer for the future in this situation) Thanks! Thank you so much! Ill-you vote for the best answer when his vote and stuff

Your profile should include the size of a block of a number of stitches. You should knit a swatch of the structure – a block about 3 or 4 inches by 3 or 4 inches. Then you can measure the distance between stitches and to see how you are knitting the thumb. Then you can determine how many points to be added to bring the correct size. So if your model says that should knit 10 stitches to an inch and if you use needles size 6, you get 12 stitches per inch and then you add 2 points for each 10. You should always knit a sample and test your gauge, even if you use the same size needles that are in the instructions because the gauge may vary depending on the voltage and other factors.
