Metal Bobbins

What is the difference between a can and a metal coil of plastic? Which is better?
mine came with the plastic but I can use metal if they are the same size. I prefer plastic because I have a window into the bobbin area so I can see if it is low. that way I can reload it when I want, instead of being surprised in the midst of a major vein. also helps with visualization of jams.
