Machines Singer

For a beginner, which low priced machine is better, Singer or Brother?
I am a beginning sewer. I’ve been looking at purchasing a lower end machine and keep seeing the same couple of models advertised over and over again.
Both Brother and Singer offer machines for $100 or less. Any opinions on which works better or lasts longer?
In that price range there’s really not going to be a lot of distinction. You can expect it to last about 5+ years with minimal maintenance, but plastic parts are never going to be as durable as metal. Both of those brands have been around a long time and have their pros/cons – a lot of people dis Singer, but then again, a lot more people have used Singer because it’s such a common brand.
What do you want to sew? Which one has those features? Buttonholes, Finished Edges? Feet Accessories?
