Deb’s Elegant Chenille Trees & Crafts

Welcome to Deb’s wonderful world of trees and chenille crafts. And to think, no trees were harmed in this process. This is my way of going Green, and pink and yellow, and so many other colors.

This is a craft I just love to do. Each and every tree is one of a kind. You will never find two trees decorated exactly the same. You may see some that are similar but I make sure that none are too much alike as far as color and decorations.

These beautiful trees take hours to design each one.

The first step is finding the Chenille bumps.

I have only found one place that sells the Chenille bumps by the yard instead of by the foot. The ones sold by the foot that you can get at most of your good craft retail stores are in packages that have several colors included in the bag, and there are usually only 12 pieces that are 12" (inches) long. This was in no way a help to me, as each tree takes at lease two hanks and each hank is 18 yards. Most trees take 3 hanks and the hanks with the shipping are almost $7.00 per hank.

Then there is the Styrofoam center. I use from 6" to 24" and cost of Styrofoam depends on the size of that I need.

Next comes the cutting of the Chenille Bumps. These are sent to me in a whole section. Each 3" bump needs cut.

If you have ever decorated with Chenille bumps you know the lovely crafts you can make with these cuties. The problem is finding the color you need and enough of it. It’s easy to make Christmas crafts with the bumps, but when it comes to spring and summer the colors are pretty limited. I must have called 20 places that sell by the hank and it was impossible to find light blue and lavender or even pretty purple. Aqua and Sea-foam green are the two that I really want. So if anyone out there knows of companies that sell by the hank OR yard and have 3” Chenille Bumps please email me and let me know.

The design of the tree is the last step. There are so many possibilities. What color and size should I make the tree? Do I use flowers or ornaments or maybe a combination of each? That is the fun part. It’s like being able to decorate a Christmas tree everyday while sitting down to design and using my imagination.

I get many of my decorations at AC Moore and a few craft places in the area, but some come from my going to the right yard sale. I find the most adorable crafts at yard sales. Some of the decorations on the trees are handmade.

Please know all the decorations are clean, even the vintage glass beads.

The trees may have silk flowers. Beads, some plastic and most are glass. The Chenille is new and clean from a non-smoking home.

Making Christmas trees are fun, but I love making the spring and summer & Easter trees. There are trees made from everything you can imagine at the Christmas season. Decorating with pastels (pink being my favorite color), makes my imagination go into overdrive. I love the spring and summer and just because trees are seen decorated from Nov to Jan, who says we can’t have them around all year long. Honestly they just make you feel good, and you will get tons of compliments.

My valentine trees are absolutely lovely and makes a great valentine’s gift!

I also make white and other color wedding trees that look beautiful as a wedding center piece on a wedding table. They also look great for wedding guest tables and also the gift table. They make great bridal shower gift or baby shower gifts.

Another fun tree to get or give is a dog tree. We have a vending business; from this business we have adorable “Dog Pound” figures. These are collectible and look wonderful on a chenille tree. Along with these ornaments we also put small dog bones and treats on the tree and top the tree with a large dog bone. I have made these for gifts and they are awesome. If you know of a dog lover or even for a vet’s office, this makes a wonderful conversation gift.

Since these take a long time to make, and the chenille bumps take about 2 weeks to arrive to my home after they are ordered, any special orders will have to be placed well in advance.

If by some chance you ever want to change the decorations on the tree to make it look different, you may do so. They are not hot glued on the tree so it’s easy to take them off. You may want to order one that has the Easter decorations, and just take off the Easter stuff off of the Easter tree and use the tree the rest of the spring and summer. Next Easter you can replace or add your own favorite decorations. ALSO you may order the trees with no decoration and use them plain or decorate them as you wish. The prices on NON decorated trees are lower and all prices vary on size or specially trees and decorations. Don’t be afraid to use your own imagination if you want to add or subtract to your tree, just handle them with care. My Mom has a tree I made years ago and it still looks new. These all will last for many years.

I also make chenille bump penguins, turkeys, and other chenille crafts, but the trees are the best seller and my favorite.

I feel my prices are very fair. The Chenille and the decorations really add up in price.
