Chocolate, cowbells & Cable Cars Swizerland and Italy

Planes, trains, buses, boats, cable cars, gondolas, lake steamer, funicular, cog wheel train and ferry were our modes of transportation. We were 60 singles with 124 bags that came, who saw, who conquered Switzerland and Italy. Apart from traffic delays of season celebration, it goes without a hitch. No passports lost and nobody loses. It was a whirlwind vacation, but my theory has always been carpe diem for a dollar, is to squeeze every possible experiment in road travel. After all, Travel is intensified living that we try to absorb the maximum thrills per minute. (When I compare this to my taste Suzy's trip to Europe 11 years ago, it was easy. We then did 6 countries in 7 days, as The Amazing Race.)

In the charming Lucerne, we were led on a walk the Old Town followed by a welcome dinner of Swiss fondue. There was a show of folklore which gave us the opportunity to blow an alpine horn. At the end of the evening was a contest where the yodel groaned as fat cows die in the microwave. We have enjoyed a real alpine adventure and up Mt over 7000 meters high. Pilatus which legend says is infested with dragons. From there we boarded a paddle boat and sailed on a lake of crystal to meet our coach Fluelen.

Our driver, Peter was super-man like we carried 7 days, over narrow mountain roads in our Super-Size This double-decker bus with a luggage trailer hitched to the trailer! Sometimes local farmers would peer from the windows flag in fear of such a feat. We stop to visit the Winery Merlot del Ticino set vineyards cliff side. So simple, so pure. Owners of family said we were their largest group ever. As we drank the raw 3, Peter spent a half hour trying to turn around the car with the help from the premises dozen. Finally we arrive in Lugano. Is it Switzerland or Italy? You have Google. We unpack for 3 lovely nights at the Hotel De La Paix.

If it's Tuesday, must be Italy. We went to tour the lush Lake District which stretches like a dream watercolor. This is the Rio of the Old Continent. In Tremezzo we see the famous gardens of Villa Carlotta and the water taxi over to elegant Bellagio. The City fell asleep for his nap 3 hours. Nothing to do but manga so I amble the paved streets pistachio ice cream for my third day. A stop is provided in Como. Some women do not even look in the mirror of the lake surrounded by palm trees. As if steroids, Mars before they armed euros Swiss franc and a MasterCard. Their motto on this marathon is 2 hours if the shoe fits, charge. Our day ends with a visit to Alprose chocolate. The visit was disappointing, but offers good buys candy.

Our evenings are totally free and we disperse in mini-groups to discover the best local cafes. Seafood is ultra cool here but on my budget in this land of a weak dollar, I set each night for Pizza Margarita, fine paper with slabs of buffalo mozzarella. On Wednesday, half of the defects groups to explore the region on their own. Some do nature trails, canoeing, MT. Bre, fishing villages and even Milan in a day. Some others in our lounge sunshine hotel like lizards. We are honored with a climate perfect to start. The other half of the group joined me with our wonderful guide Isabelle. (She has an obsession with George Clooney's villa which is facing Lake Como.) We start with the market Ponte Tressa where Europeans flock for bargains, but depart early because it resembles a giant garage sale. We ferry from Lavino with our monster bus across Lake Maggiore to intra and can lead to Stress. Heres now a place where I would dwell for a Mediterranean flair. Hence, some visit the Borromean Islands, l '.

Time check and head to Switzerland on one of the worlds most rail journeys different. Corkscrews Bernina Express route and the Alps with a Kodak moment at every turn. We spend 3 glaciers and Lake White named his ice milk. In 3 hours we reach the top of the world to glitzy St. Moritz. Our hotel has been upgraded to 5 star Grand Hotel Kempenski, according to our driver the finest hotel in Switzerland. We enter the hall quietly chandeliered in T-shirts and denim shorts as if we were also part of the rich and famous. This is as elegant as it gets. I do not want to leave my suite with marble bath and duvet birds. The designer boutiques of the city are now closed. We disperse along nature trails around the lake. For dinner, some of the follies of the restaurant the world-class hotel on fresh lamb wrapped in pancakes herbs and deserts of spun sugar. Twenty of us have a Parking outside BBQ with local organic produce. Later, I enjoy a complimentary spa bath and 4 treatment rooms.

I always said if I been forced to exchange my passport with another country, I would choose Switzerland. Even the cows with their bells are happy here. It is the air the purest and the finest food. It is efficiency. As Scouts, after Swiss cleanliness, punctuality, cleanliness and hard work as virtues. This is the calm in the green hills where one feels safe. And that's the beauty of the rugged rocks, streams, lakes clean and snowcapped mountains.

The important thing for me was our morning excursion by cable car 2 growing at an isolated restaurant 9000 feet high. Here we are greeted with a glass of champagne on a private sun drenched terrace. Some of We traveled through the ice palace, a cave like cavern of pure ice. The majesty of this mountain has humiliated me.

Peter must lead us in Zurich during a seemingly insurmountable mountain before reaching the highway. In 27 years, he is driven tour buses over 3 million kilometers and said he hated driving that road. We turn mating of cows and villages with populations of 12 years. After a lunch break the land of Heidi, we arrive safely at Zurich. It's raining now as if Mother Nature imitates the sadness of our departure. I here the night with a solid 9 hours of sleep and evoke memories of another journey well done.
